For income and capital taxation purposes, a calendar year beginning April 6 and ending April 5 for which liability is calculated, eg “1988-89” describes the year of assessment beginning April 6 1988. See FISCAL YEAR.

In valuations by the investment method, the amount by which the net income is multiplied to arrive at capital value. It is synonymous with the present value of £1 per annum and is the reciprocal of the annuity £1 will purchase. For most purposes, tables of years’ purchase are either single rate or dual rate.

The colloquial name for the loose-leaf publication issued by the Council of the International Stock Exchange and entitled Admission of Securities to Listing, which has a bright yellow cover. It lays down minimum requirements for:
a. the admission of stocks and shares to listing, ie quotation.
b. the contents, scrutiny and publication of listing particulars, and
c. continuing obligations for those responsible.
A limited circulation consultation paper embodying revised proposals by the government on a particular subject after consideration of submissions made in response to the relevant Green Paper. It is sent to official bodies, representative and professional organisations and others who have commented on or expressed interest in proposals put forward in the Green Paper. See WHITE PAPER.

In agriculture, the average amount of milk, wool or other product per animal for a given period. Cf CROP YIELD.
